When Bernie Mac died suddenly over the weekend (didn't we just read a report Friday that he was getting better?), the sad news came first from the Sun-Times ... here's an E&P brief about it:

Our question is this: Are there any journos out there who don't count Web site postings as officially "breaking" a news story--ones who feel whoever gets it in the first print edition *really* breaks the story?
Or, in today's new media world, is posting a news item the way to break it to the world (and how do sites like PerezHilton.com, that aren't factchecked, fit into the mix)?
